Bengaluru FC: New Signings, Point Table, Fixtures & New Players 2017
INDIAN SUPER LEAGUE (ISL) has two new franchises joining in the 2017-18 season.They are the Bengaluru FC and the Jamshedpur FC.They combine the existing eight franchises

The 10 teams will compete over a period of 5 months to become the ultimate champion of India.Since its inception in 2014 ISL has grown on to become a big success, increasing the football fan base in India. With the likes of Elder Postiga, Elano Blumer, Diego Forlan, Roberto Carlos, Nicolas Anelka and other international players, attracting Indian Fans to the League.
Bengaluru FC was formed in 2013 and is owned by JSW Ltd. a Mumbai based company. Bengaluru FC played in I-League before entering ISL. It is the first team to win I-League in its debut season.
Bengaluru FC has also represented India in Asian competitions. It became the first Indian club to enter the finals of AFC (Asian Football Confederation) cup, eventually ending as the runners-up in the tournament. Bengaluru FC has won I-League twice. Once in its debut season (2013-14) and in the 2015-16 season. The club has also won the Federation Cup in 2014-15 and 2016-17. The Club is often called ‘The Blues ’ by their Fans.
Moving from I-League to ISL
Football Sports Development Ltd (FSDL) who operates ISL invited bids for two new teams in May 2017. Bengaluru FC showed interest in joining ISL by sending the request to FSDL. In June the results of the bids were declared, and Bengaluru FC was announced as the new entrant to ISL along with Jamshedpur FC.

Albert Roca is the head coach of Bengaluru FC. His an ex-Spanish Footballer who played as a central defender. Roca signed a two-year contract with the club in July 2016. Under his reign team reached the finals of AFC Cup 2016, however, they finished the tournament as runner-ups losing to Iraq’s Air Force Club.
Although Roca started his I-League campaign successfully with three wins in as many games, Bengaluru FC finished the League at the fourth position.
Roca came back strongly in Federation Cup as Bengaluru FC won the Federation Cup 2016-17. This was their second Federation Cup title.
Players Bought at Auction
In July FSDL hosted an auction of players for ISL 2017 in which more than 100 players were bought.Bengaluru FC’s first pick was Indian Goalkeeper Lalthuammawia Ralte. He has already represented in I-league in the previous seasons.Earlier he was part of NorthEast United in ISL 2015 on a loan deal.The club’s next picked defender Rahul Bheke. Bheke played for FC Pune City in the last season. He was bought for 43 lakh in the auction.
The star of the auction for Bengaluru FC was ex-FC Pune City midfielder, Lenny Rodrigues.The team paid about 60 lakh rupees for him. He made international debut for India against
Oman in 2012. Since then he made 22 appearances for India. In 29 appearances for FC Pune City in ISL, he has scored 1 goal. His experience at the international level can prove vital for the club in ISL.
Next big buy for the team was another midfielder Harmanjot Khabra who was bought at staggering 53 lakh. Khabra played for Chennaiyin FC in previous seasons of ISL.
The other two midfielders bought by Bengaluru team were Indian international Alwyn George and ex-Mumbai City player Boithang Haokip. Alwyn George was purchased at 35 lakh. In his 37 appearances for Bengaluru FC in I-league Alwyn has scored 4 goals. He played for Delhi Dynamos in the previous edition of ISL.
At this auction, they brought two goalie keepers: Abhra Mondal and Calvin Abhishek.
The lone forward bought at the auction was Thongkhosiem Haokip at 30 lakh. He has played for FC Goa in the second edition of ISL appearing in 6 games and scoring 4 goals.
In addition to Rahul Bheke other defenders bought at auction were ex-North East United FC defender Zohmingliana Ralte (25 lakh), Subashish Bose (17 lakh), Collin Abranches (13 lakh) and Joyner Lourenco.After the auction Head Coach Albert Roca Tweeted
“Interesting day that has ended on a very satisfying note for us at BFC. Some choices were tough but that’s football. Can’t wait to begin.”
Players Retained by Bengaluru FC
In addition to the players bought at auction, FC has maintained Indian national team captain Sunil Chhetri who has signed a 3-year deal with the club in 2017. Sunil Chhetri played for Mumbai City FC in the last two seasons in ISL. He also played for the team in I-league and other Asian tournaments. The Indian skipper joined BENGALURU FC in 2013 and had been playing for them since. In 108 appearances for the team, he has scored 47 goals and remains to be the clubs, prime striker. He is the highest scorer for Bengaluru FC.No doubt they retained the ace Indian Player. His experience in ISL will boost team’s chance of winning the tournament.
Team also signed a 3-year deal with Udanta Singh in 2017 extending his stint at the club. Udanta joined Bengaluru FC in the 2014-15 season and has been part of the club since then. He has played 65 games for the club and has scored 6 goals. Udanta also played for Mumbai City FC in the last season of ISL. He played as the winger for BENGALURU FC in the I-league.
In addition to the two Indians retained by the team, the club has also retained Spanish central defender Juan Antonio Gonzalez Fernandez and English man John Johnson.
Johnson is a defender and has been part of Bengaluru FC since its inception. In 104 appearances for the club, he has scored 5 goals. The club renewed his contract in June 2016 for two years, ensuring his services till the end of 2017-18 season.
Juan joined FC on 8th August 2016 for a 1-year deal. He has scored 1 goal in 26 appearances for the club. The 30-year-old Defender played for Deportivo in La Liga. He also played for Real Madrid B side in Segunda Division B. He played for North American Soccer League’s team Rayo OKC before joining the Blues.
With the retention of Juan and John Bengaluru FC’s defense looks strong.
Bengaluru FC New Signings
In July 2017, Bengaluru FC signed their third international player Erik Paartalu. Erik is an Australian player who played for Qatari Stars League club Al Kharaitiyat before joining the team. He plays defensive midfielder. Erik began his career in the A-League with Northern Spirit. He was part of Brisbane Roar squad when the club won the A-League title in 2011. He scored an equalizer in the 120th minute of the game and scored in the penalty shootout which the Roars won by 4-2.
Next International signing of the team was Dimas Delgado. The Spanish Midfielder began his professional football career in 2002 playing for Gramenet. He then made a move to FC Barcelona B side in 2006. BFC’s head Coach Albert Roca was an assistant at Barcelona during Delgado’s stint at FC Barcelona B side. He played over 400 games in Spanish Football before moving to his first international club Western Sydney Wanderers. In 50 appearances for the A-League Club, he scored 4 goals.
In July 2017 Bengaluru FC signed Spanish winger Antonio Rodriguez Dovale for the 2017-18 season. Dovale played for the Segunda Division Club Rayo Vallecano before joining the blues. He started his professional Football Career with Celta de Vigo.Played for the club in La Liga. The 27-year-old Spaniard has played 165 games scoring 14 goals in his short career so far.
The Blues then signed Spanish forward Braulio Nobrega Rodriguez for one year deal. The 31-year-old Spaniard played for Doxa Katokopia FC before joining Bengaluru FC. In 19 appearances for the club, he scored 12 goals. Nobrega is the fourth Spaniard at the club joining Juanan Gonzalez, Dimas Delgado, and Antonio Dovale. Nobrega played a few games for Atletico Madrid in La Liga 2004-05 season before moving to Mallorca on loan.
Next player signed by BENGALURU FC was Indian Goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu. He is an Indian international who made his debut in 2011 against Turkmenistan. Before joining the Blues Sandhu played for Norwegian club Stabæk. By joining Stabæk, he became the first Indian goalkeeper to play top-division football outside India. After the move to BENGALURU FC, the Indian goalkeeper revealed the reason why he joined the Blues,
“Unlike other clubs, BFC showed serious interest and commitment in buying and moved in quickly to pay my transfer fee to Stabaek FC. Moreover, BFC is a very professional club, competing in international competitions like AFC Cup and it’s important for me to play more competitive games before the 2019 Asian Cup.”
Team’s next International signing was Venezuelan striker Nicolas Miku. Miku signed a two years deal with the club making a move from Rayo Vallecano. In 43 appearances for Rayo Vallecano, he scored 13 goals. The 32-year-old forward made his international debut in 2006. In 51 appearances for Venezuela, he scored 11 goals. Miku represented Celtic in UEFA Champions League. He also played for Getafe and Valencia in the UEFA Europa League. His partnership with Braulio Nobrega at the front can be lethal.
FC signed their eight international players Eduardo Garcia on a one-year deal. With his signing, BENGALURU FC completed their quota of international players. The Spaniard is a winger, who can also play as a left back. Garcia played for Segunda Division club Real Zaragoza before joining BFC. In 27 appearances for the club, he scored 2 goals. By 2014 he joined Spanish Club Deportivo Ebro.Within two seasons at CD Ebro, he scored 24 goals in 64 games. His addition will provide balance to the BFC squad giving the support staff enough options to play their best eleven.

In August 2017 Bengaluru FC revealed their jersey and Bengaluru FC Logo for home games in ISL.German sports brand PUMA designs and sponsors the jersey. Bengaluru FC’s logo is seen at the top right of the jersey. There are two stars above Bengaluru FC logo on the jersey. The stars symbolize the two I-League championship won by the club.Bengaluru FC jerseys are up for sale and buy it from online sites. Bengaluru FC Home Ground
In the 2013-14 season of I-League, the Blues played their home games at Bangalore Football Stadium. It has a capacity of 15000. The Stadium is at the center of the city.
In the next season of I-League, the Blues played their home games at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The Stadium has a capacity of 24000.It is Bengaluru FC’s home ground since 2014.
The Blues will play their ISL home games at this stadium.
